This wonderful fox necklace is one of collection of handmade silver nature-inspired necklaces made by Blue Dot Jewelry in Brooklyn, NY. We are ever so pleased to announce these beautiful and elegant silver pendant necklaces are now in the iheartmoss store. In addition to the fox necklace, we also have an antler necklace, a pinecone necklace, a double maple leaf, hummingbird, tree stump, hops and grass seeds.

The Blue Dot Jewelry pieces are made using an age-old silver clay process; this material combines the tiniest particles of silver suspended in a small amount of organic binder. Each piece is shaped, sanded and then fired in a kilm, the organic matter burns away leaving only the silver. Therefore, each fox necklace is one-of-kind.

Caitlin McNamara says Blue Dot Jewelry started when she discovered the possibilities of working with precious metal clay (PMC). The PMC is malleable and lends itself to a hands-on process like other clays. However, after being fired in the kilm, the final product is a fine, heirloom quality jewelry perfect for special gifts that will stand the test of time. She grew up in the PNW and has always had a love for the forms of nature so Blue Dot Jewelry was inspired by both: the fabulous PMC and the desire to capture the details of our natural world.

The name blue dot came to Caitlin from reading Astronomer Carl Sagan who used the endearing nickname 'pale blue dot' for our Earth. Segan is the author of Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space, and in the book says:

“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives... every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization...

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet... "
